Learn about the Daechang TikTok food trend in Indonesia.
TikTok has become a new hub for food trends as recipe sharing is one of the most engaging content on the platform.
Recently, an exotic delicacy from Korea called Daechang has gone viral in Indonesia. The food started going viral after a TikTok content creator with 3M followers, Shania Amelia, uploaded a video of eating Daechang at a Korean restaurant.
The video was uploaded on Instagram story and it triggered netizens on various social media platforms to try it.
First, what is Daechang?
Daechang (대창) is a type of South Korean delicacy made from grilled cow intestine. Not to be confused with gopchang (곱창) and makchang (막창), daechang is made from yyy parts while gopchang and makchang are made from the rumen and the abomasum. The love for daechang comes from traditional Korean society, which believes cows are friends to humans. As a form of respect, people in Korea cook all parts of the cow to ensure that nothing goes to waste.
How can it be a viral TikTok food trend in Indonesia?
After watching the video, Indonesians tried (and mostly failed) to recreate the crispy and juicy daechang. Hence mark the beginning of the battle of daechang, where netizens are competing by themselves to recreate the food. From roasting to air-frying, most Indonesian netizens failed to get the desired crispiness from their daechang. Some of them have even experimented multiple times to no avail. Notable Tik Tok influencers joining in on this trend are Ravie, Si Bungbung, and Egan Andika
Has somebody managed to make a crispy Daechang?
Laras Sita Faza and Abi Khourunisa were two TikTok users who successfully made a crispy daechang. They did the same thing; they cooked the daechang when it was frozen in a pan, and after 10 minutes, the intestine was put in an air-fryer for 30-40 minutes.
Their videos managed to get more than 100K engagements, and netizens named them the most successful daechang maker on TikTok.
